Memorial Day

I'm a Veteran.  Yes I am.  I'm very proud to have served our country.  I enlisted at the end of the Cold War era.  I was stationed at Clark AB in the Phillipines during the Marcos administration.   I was also stationed at KI Sawyer in the Upper Penninsula, Michigan.  I earned six ribbons and medals, including sharp shooter 3 times.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  Until you, yourself, have actually served in the military, or you have an immediate family member serving, you don't really know exactly what it means to say "I protected our freedom".

So, to all the Veterans out there, past, present and future:

Thank you!

From one who knows.

Well said Wendy - good for you. Must have been a hard task for you and yours. My son Stuart is a Captain in the Australian Army Reserves... He has spent 6 months in the Solomon Islands not that long ago...admittedely as a part of a peace keeping contingent...and Mals father served and was wounded in Galipoli.

Wow, Wendy! You are triply awesome! Making and donating patriotic quilts to wounded veterans at Fort Lewis, WA. has been a special project of mine for the past 5 years. I've slowed down since our quild got more picky on wanting larger sizes, I broke my wrist and all 3 parents went downhill and needed so much extra time and energy.... but you make me want to start up again. And Wendy...Thank YOU!!!!

Thank you for protecting us! GOod for you!!! I am so proud of you. You are right, until you serve it's hard to know... I know my husband did not want to go to Vietnam, but didn't have any choice. Then came home to a very bad reception... Hopefully we will learn from these experiences and we will give our troops the thanks they deserve.
Right after 9/11 I was in the airport and a soldier was coming home, his wife and two small children met him. That was it. Lots of hugs and tears. Nobody clapped or did anything. He was walking away and I went up to them and said thank you. He hugged me. I had tears in my eyes. I put a folded up 100 bill in his hand and said go take your family out to dinner.... They walked away and it was a moment in my life that I'll never forget. :)

Wendy - am so proud of you - and was so proud of you while you were serving our country. For that matter - I'm still so proud of you - not only for serving then - but also for saying your thank you-s = as we all should, to the veterans who are safeguarding our country. (I'm also proud of you - just for being you! Love ya!)
