My DH has termed this "The Project", so the name has stuck. Here's my crystal blocks I've been L&E for the past few weeks for the Liberated Amish 2010 challenge. My quandry (much to my DH's amusement) has been which background to use. In case you can't see the colors well, we have dark green, black, burgandy and navy. The burgandy is about a half step darker in real life. That's the one I'm leaning toward, but the black is nice, too. So is the navy. Of course I just like the color green. See my problem? I need impartial judges, please.

They would all be nice, but my favorite would be the burgandy...just personal choice :)
This is quite the challenge you started...wow!
I like the burgandy too. The others seem a bit too strong of a contrast (could be just my monitor!). Good luck, I am sure it will look great.
Oh, no, the black really makes the other colors pop.
The Navy and Burgundy are my favorites. Since you are looking at these fabrics alive and in person, I really think you should trust your gut and just allow yourself to go with whatever was your first choice. The reality is that any of those background fabrics will work.
I like both the Navy and the Burgundy. BUT I really REALLY lean towards the Navy - it makes the colors POP. But then I also like the black - and - yeah, I know - I'm NO help at all! LOL
