Mom’s quilt

And you thought it was all make believe!  Here’s a shot of Mom’s gorgeous Log Cabin quilt.  Doesn’t it look dreamy on MY bed?  The streak in the middle is just the sun shining through the window.

Here’s a close-up of the feathers in the blue.

I’ve always been crafty … well, that too, I guess.  But you know what I mean:  I’ve always done crafts and, as you can see, it runs in the family.  Quilts are my latest obsession and I notice I’m not running to the fabric shop as often as I used to.  Does that mean I’m ready for a new craft?  Not in the least!  It just means I’m ready to step up the difficulty level a bit.  Though I’ve done a fair share of FMQ, and a few dabbles with wholecloth type stuff, I think you may be seeing more of that here, along with my regular quilting.  For example, a year ago, I’d have been happy to just put plain feathers in this quilt.  But now …  It’s got to be something  more.  Something … more elaborate, more testing of my skills.

I often think that people mistake boredom for lack of interest.  They ARE two different things.  Status quo is boring.  Try challenging yourself instead.

What did you FMQ today?

Your Mum's quilt turned out beautiful - I'm sure you wish it was staying there!! I hear what you are saying about challenges - I love quilting for that reason - there is so much depth to it, and always plenty to learn!

Such a pretty blue quilt, with beautiful feathers. Love your comments about growing and stretching ourselves with our craft / quilting / life. There is always something interesting for us to appreciate.

I started the FMQ on my tea towel challenge quilt on Quilting Day (saturday) and am still working on it. I decided to try to FMQ on an old Singer 301 and there's been a bit of a learning curve ... I'm telling myself that by the time I finish the quilt, I'll be comfortable using this machine for quilting ... we'll see ;-)

My mother always TALKED about making quilts (and saved scraps of fabric with that intention), but never really got around to doing some quilting. But she did many other crafty/creative things and, like you, I know some of my creativity came from her genes. I love the quilting on your mother's quilt.

Thanks for Visiting! Come Back Soon!
