The FMQ Challenge Begins

"And so it begins..."

That's a quote from Kosh on the TV series, Babylon 5.  One of my favorite quotes, actually.  I think, though, today I'll change it to "And sew it begins...".  Today is the first day of the 3-week FMQ Challenge, during which a person must free-motion quilt for 14 consecutive days (somewhere in there).  There are prizes and chatting and showing off and all kinds of fun things.  Come join us, or at the very least, drop by and cheer us on!

My FMQ project is my mother's quilt.  I actually started it a few days ago, but don't worry, I have plenty enough to quilt yet to take me through the required fourteen days.  Anyway, here's the first star finished, front and back.  The small gap in the middle would be where the name would go, if there had been one.

This piece is just a warm-up piece.  I'm sewing along the lines to help me better sew in the ditch around the stars.  I don't know if it's helping or not, but it's fun.

Two days ago, it was brown outside with small shoots of green.  Then we had this gorgeous sunrise and by nightfall we were once again blanketed in white.  Figures.  Still, it keeps me inside and sewing.

Your FMQ Challenge is a fun one and really works. I did this last year and was amazed how much better your FMQ work can be in 14 days.
I'd join in this fun but unfortunately these dates do not work for me.

One of my favorite quotes too, from a show that is actually full of them. "We are all star-stuff."

Lovely quilting on the star.
