You know, now that I'm using the 50wt Aurifil, I'm beginning to see the difference in all kinds of threads. The Robison-Anton thread I bought recently quilts differently than the Aurifil. As does Wonderfil. I was reading DG's blog today and it said that a student can bring two different machines, use them in the same exact way, and they'll behave differently. I know my machine is like that. The things that are supposed to work well with my machine don't. And the things that are supposed to be horrible with my machine are! That leaves me experimenting a lot. Here's my latest shipment of thread. The Burgandy (left side) is so dark it almost looks black. Now ask me why I bought Burgandy thread. Go ahead, ask. Answer: I have no idea!
Here's some of yesterday's FMQ. I always seem to get to a point where I have to stop and think with these things and where I'll go next. They aren't automatic yet. I kinda wonder if they will be. In this case, I want to add some more big items to fill in some of that dead space. Maybe some leaves. Maybe something abstract. Those are 1" pins, so you'll get an idea of scale.
Today's FMQ was requilting my "ouch" on Prairie Children. I should finish it tomorrow (Good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise).

I am hoping that "where to go" becomes more automatic too. I guess "doing" is the way to go.
I'm a bit embarrassed to say, I still haven't tried Auriful. I'm definitely going to have to give it a try. I think you'll find several things to use your Burgundy for. I find I use darker colors for machine quilting (or piecing)quite frequently.

For a while beleive it or not - I couldnt find the pin! I was engrossed in the quilting...those flowers are really good. I also like your choice of coloured thread. I am feeling guilty - I have more silk on the way...isnt DG's web-site so interesting. Makes you want to go and try everything out. At least you are closer to get to her than me :( I have a sick girl at home again today, so not sure how I will travel with quilting today.. I may try later :)
